Taprobane V3.0 – SEDS Sri Lanka – 2022

SERENDIB V3.0

ISLE 1.O is an Underwater Monitoring and Research Project conducted under the Bio medical and Earth science division of SEDS Sri Lanka by a team of Undergraduate students from Island wide universities under the mentorship of a few graduate students. Phase 1 of the project includes identifying and tracking of cetacean species by acoustic detection using a Convolutional Neural Network. A solar energy driven unmanned automated boat will be used for acoustic detection. In phase 2 of the project, a series of data are to be collected by the means of an Underwater parameter collection laboratory which will travel to the sea bed and collect samples and various ocean parameters throughout its journey. The data collected through Sea water samples, ocean bed soil samples and other varying parameters will be further analysed on land to find out specific information on the habitats and marine ecosystem. We strongly believe that the monitoring and Research done through this project will help to increase the present understanding we have on our oceans and its habitats. As a nation surrounded by the ocean, it is our duty to ensure that ocean resources are not just managed but managed sustainably and well protected, so that those resources can be enjoyed by future generations as well.
